Description of the theft
My two bikes are always u-locked together and then cable locked again to
the railing of my apartment's interior stairs on the second floor in front of my
apt door. The building has a locked front door that only the residents have
access to unless they bring guests. With that said, my bikes was very secure.
Monday evening I saw them in their usual place at 6:30pm. I didn't hear any
unusual sounds that evening. When I passed by again around 9:00pm, they
were both gone. I think my neighbor's orange Trek is missing as well but
they haven't been home for me to ask. There are several other bikes (less
securely locked) on the second floor that were untouched. When I realized
what had happened, I ran downstairs of the building and saw that the main
front door was being held wide open with the mat rolled up underneath it. I
believe the thieves cut the cable lock and grabbed my two bikes still attached
to one another with a heavy duty U-lock. My main bike, the white
Diamondback, is the one I care about most out of the two. It is white with
black handle bars. There is a black rear rack with a black plastic lockable
topcase trunk attached to the rack. There is a red water bottle cage as well.
Inside the trunk was my grey Bern helmet, hand pump, Blackburn Flea front
and rear lights, bungee cargo net, Topeak folding bike tool, and a packable
bag. It is pretty recognizable and looks a little like a police bike actually. It
also has Wheel Brightz lights on both of the wheels. Blue in the front and red
in to back so at night that is a huge distinction of my bike. They are very
bright and go around the entire wheel.
