Description of the theft
Last night my beloved Specialized Tarmac road bike was stolen off of a rack in Fremont. It happened in a matter of seconds while my back was turned. One minute it was there, I turned to help a customer, when I turned back it was gone. It was locked up securely through the front wheel and frame. When I ran out to look, it was nowhere to be seen. In my anger I gave the rack a shake and discovered that the bolts attaching it to the sidewalk had been removed. My theory is that the thief removed the bolts with a wrench at some earlier time and waited for the right bike to show up. Then all he/she had to do was lift up the rack and slide the lock out from under it.
