Description of the theft
My husband and I rode our e-bikes to our friends Christmas party at 1725 SE 50TH AVE, Portland, OR 97215, arriving around 7:45pm on 12/23/22 and locked our bikes to the large, solid metal street post on the corner of SE Mill and 50th ave. We used kryptonite locks, my husband locked his top tube directly to the street post and I locked my top tube to his. We also engaged the rear wheel Dutch locks on the bikes; these locks go through the rear spokes and effectively make the rear wheel rotation impossible without destroying the wheel if left locked. We were leaving the party around 2:15am on 12/24/22 and when we walked outside our bikes were gone. The lock used on my husbands bike was cut and left attached to the street post. We checked for tracks in the snow and we couldn’t see any that would match our bikes, so it seems as though they would have been transported in a vehicle. The bikes are heavy and they were attached to each other and the rear wheels were locked so they couldn’t be ridden away. They would have been quite cumbersome. We took photos and video of the scene with the bikes gone and our lock still attacked to the post. Additionally, the way the bike lock was cut, it seems that the top tube of the blue bike may have been cut to free the bikes since the opening of the lock is only approx 1/2inch, which is not enough clearance to get the top tube free. We also had zip ties around our wheels/tires for added traction in the winter storm, the zip ties are black. The bikes are dark gray and a muted blue color, both with red front racks and black back racks. They each have 1 rear pannier on the left side of the bike, black in color. The blue bike has a narwhal squeeky bell on the bars.
