Description of the theft
We noticed my wife's bike was stolen yesterday, 10/14/21 at about 11am. It had to have been stolen within the last 3 days. It was locked to our apartment complex's bike rack, which is not visible from the street. It was properly and securely locked with a Kryptonite U-lock and Kryptonite cable to the rack. We discovered it was gone when the bike was no longer there, and the rack itself had been cut and bent to allow the lock to slip off. The cut looked slightly pushed in, as if done with bolt cutters.
Today, 10/15/21 at about 6:00pm, my wife discovered the bike advertised for sale on Facebook Marketplace, in Richmond, by a Maribel Zamorano and Gustavo Zamorano. We have some screenshots of the listing. The bike is clearly identifiable from the photos on the listing. We also ran a google search for public records, and found an address: 614 18th St., Richmond, CA, for $180. The profile also had numerous bikes available for sale--given what we know, this appears to be a couple who steals bikes and sells them online. Gustavo Zamorano also had an easily-discoverable Instagram profile.
We called the bike shop (Davis Cyclery) and they were able to look up the serial number in their customer profiles. We gave them our name, the date of purchase, and the exact purchase amount (from our bank records), and they found our profile, confirming our name and email address.
When we went to check the Facebook Marketplace listing again at about 7:05pm, we found that it had been newly listed as "sold."
