STOLEN in South Lake Tahoe! I camped and rode at Northstar all week and on my way out of town, I checked into the Hard Rock at Stateline for a shower and dinner. I parked near the valet in the parking garage and when I returned to my car after dinner, two thieves were cutting locks and stealing our bikes. We chased them and recovered their bag of tools that included bolt cutters, a lithium battery pack for a power tool and wd40. One of the bikes didn't have a seat on it so they ended up ditching it but they got away with my brand new 2019 Specialized Stump Jumper. The Douglas County Sheriff's arrived within 5 minutes of our call, before hotel security, and they were super helpful. Their evidence techs are checking for prints in the contents of the bag and I am hoping that something turns up. Please keep an eye out and report if seen. The bike is registered in the National Stolen Bike Registry, possession = Grand Larceny. TOURISTS BEWARE- Local police, bike shops, and pawn shops all report that the Hard Rock Hotel Tahoe has a bike theft problem and I would bet that someone on staff is reporting the presence of high-end bikes in the garage to thieves.
