Description of the theft
On August 14, 2024, between 3:45 PM and 8:30 PM, my GOTRAX EBE1 Folding E-Bike was stolen from the bike parking area outside the Microsoft office in downtown Calgary (110 9 Ave SW #8, Calgary, AB). I had attended a Tech Alberta event at that location and securely locked my e-bike with a metal U rod lock before going inside. Upon returning, I found the bike had been stolen.
The bike is a black GOTRAX EBE1 Folding E-Bike, easily distinguishable by its small 16-inch wheels, folding frame, and unique design. It also has an ignition switch that requires a key, which I still possess. Additionally, the bike has noticeable scratches on the brake lever.
I believe the theft may have been racially motivated, as I overheard comments about my ethnicity and how I could afford such a bike while en route to the event. These remarks, along with the unusual attention the bike garnered, suggest that I was targeted based on my appearance.
Unfortunately, there is no video surveillance that I have access to, but I believe the building’s CCTV may have captured the theft.
