We realised that the bike that was stolen has a unique characteristic that would be easily ascertained if a bike of the correct model were to be recovered- but that the thieves would not know about.

The inner steel tube that supports the saddle was shortened at home by my husband with a metal saw, so the tube is about 1-1.5 inches shorter than usual, ends at a slight angle rather than horizontally and it is obvious that the work was done by an amateur at home rather than being the result of factory manufacturing. As a result, the seat goes about 1.5 inches lower than is possible in a standard bike of that model.

The second characteristic that differentiates it from a standard model is that it has a Giant adjustable height bike stand fitted on the left hand side. I appreciate this is more easily spotted and could be removed by the thieves, but it would make the bike even easier to identify if sighted.
